New York City native Leah Fisher, an actress you probably haven’t heard of, is getting her big break in the premiere of a brand new musical… All the way down in North Carolina. In Durham she meets Sophia Medina, the understudy unexpectedly playing Lady Macbeth in the theater season’s token Shakespeare play.

Leah is smitten, but trying to balance lust and drama isn’t easy, especially when her director, her leading man, and the entire South might be conspiring to ruin her.

This story was so much fun to read, I read it in a day. The characters were sublime and off-beat with a hint of dry humor and a slathering of camaraderie and passion. They were so like real friends truly are, lovable when unlovable and more family than blood could ever hope to be. I really liked the way the author didn't sugar coat the insecurities and less than stellar aspects of the characters personalities. I want to be able to love and sometime dislike the characters I read about because that's what makes them vibrant and three dimensional to me. This author seems to get that. Love the theater angle as well. The author seems to have as much passion for the characters as the characters have for the theater. I was rooting for them all, even the ones who tested my ability to do so. I love a complex character with layers and a desire to be truly known and loved. I hope there's more to come from this very talented author.

Little Disquietude edition by C E Case Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Actress Leah Fisher's life is one borne of chaos, all though she enjoys the chaos that comes with being an actress, it's become a bit much. This book is a pleasant journey that follows one woman's emotional discovery of who she is and why she does what she does through the creation (and all the ups and downs related to it) of a musical. The author creatively weaves Leah's life in between moments of the musical to show how the two interweave and grow together. The setting of Durham just helps to give the story a feeling of comfort, even during the more troubling and confusing times, and I couldn't imagine a better place for an emotional discovery of oneself to happen.
Wonderful book, very well written, with great characters, exceptional dialogue and real emotions. I loved this one. What drew me most into the book was the character of Leah, who, at 33 has to confront the limits to her dreams. She's cast as the lead, singing Edgar Allen Poe verse to her long term friend's music. It's not off-broadway, it's not on Broadway…... but in North Carolina.

One can feel Leah's weariness with the effort and how much she has to give of herself for limited success, at the same time always (mostly) dreaming large. She finds Sophia, also an actress, playing the lead in MacBeth, in the same theater as her own show and the conversation and building of a relationship between the two was marvelous to discover. Highly recommended.
We need more books like this. I can't wait for more books from this author, this book was well written.
The characters are realistic and the writing isn't bad. There were also some things (the Poe musical for example) that made me laugh. But, ultimately, I just couldn't get emotionally involved in the life and loves of the main character. I usually read books like this in a day or two, but this one took me over a week. Several times I lost interest and opted to read something else.
I ususlly love novels with a show biz background but this one left me with the blahs.
While I liked the characters of Leah annd Sophia and found their interactions enjoyablle the parts of the book where they were not together left me cold. Family and previous relationships are lurking in the background and while referred to are not explained or explored.
The biggest problem I had with the e-book was the way it was formatted. Scenes in a chapter ran into one another without spacing to let the reader know that the time or location had changed causing confusion and forcing me to go back and re-read to figure out what was going on.
All in all a story and book that could have been much better.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story by C.E. Case about a not so young actress unwilling to give up her dream of becoming a broadway star. Yet, the one thing I just couldn't get past was the horrible editing! I found a dozen typos and editing mistakes, even a page where they called the character "Leigh" when her name is "Leah." I read the book fairly quickly because it was quite short, and yet I still managed to catch typo after typo. Although I enjoyed the book, I would have enjoyed it much more if I didn't have to pause and sigh every time I saw a mistake that the editor or proofreader missed.
The story is not a complicated one but very entertaining. When I was reading the book, I felt like I was "behind-the-scenes" of the entertainment business - the author obviously did a pretty good job researching the novel or has some sort of experience in the area. The characters were smart and funny. Overall a very enjoyable book.
